Extraordinary Rides:
Swiss Routes, Tips & Inspiration

Early February is already here, and 2026 is well underway. In a couple of weeks, many of our friends and partners in Asia will welcome Lunar New Year on February 17 — the Year of the Fire Horse, that fits perfectly to life on two wheels: energy, forward motion, and a healthy respect for the elements.
The summer of 2025 hardly lived up to its name.
Spring brought long stretches with very little sunshine. Then came a mix of extremes: a very hot and dry June with heat waves, followed by a July that felt almost wintry up in the Swiss mountains and the Alps. In many regions below about 1,800 meters (around 5,900 ft), rainfall was well above average — and on July 8, even the Stelvio Pass saw fresh snow.

One quick reminder about riding in Switzerland, (once again): check the weather and the forecast every day, and don’t hesitate to ask locals or the tourist office — especially in the mountains. Weather can change abruptly in the Alps, and riding through cold rain, fog, or slippery conditions is nobody’s idea of fun.
Overall, 2025 was a season of short windows for motorcyclists: a dry and sunny weekend here and there, then many rainy days again. It was also unusually mild — for the first time in years, I even saw a few motorcycle enthusiasts riding in December 2025 and January 2026.

Tension and uncertainty are also reflected in the motorcycle world. After years of growth, registration numbers have cooled again in parts of Europe. At the same time, the industry is changing: stricter standards, rapid technical shifts, production relocations, and ongoing debates about the meaning of sustainability, and the future of the combustion engine.

In Switzerland we say that hope dies last. When uncertainty feels like part of everyday life, it helps to focus on what remains — and on what still brings joy.

Discovering by motorcycle doesn’t have to mean going far away. A great ride can start right outside your door and still feel extraordinary. You can find a few of my tours in Switzerland here:

In more than 55 years of motorcycle travel, I’ve collected and saved countless routes and itineraries. Discovery tours don’t have to be on a motorcycle:
