Motorcycling in Switzerland!
Plenty of spectacular alpine passes with the smoothest tarmac you can imagine and lots of curves and hairpin bends.

Hello reader
Switzerland is known for its best road quality in the world. It ranks at the second place just behind Singapore. It that the main reason why you’d like to ride on a motorcycle in Switzerland?

Here the latest news regarding motorcycling in Switzerland

It is a nice sunny Saturday morning in August. I have a break on a bench on the side of one of my preferred alpine pass-roads. About every thirty seconds, a motorcycle roars past. What surprises me, is the number of traffic offences:
  • Speeding
  • Distance to the vehicle in front too short
  • Overtaking without the necessary foresight
  • Dangerous maneuvers
  • Riding over the solid white line in the center of the road and even the double white center lines
It looks to me, that certain motorcyclists do not know the laws or just love to ignore the laws or they like to play with their lives. Some are only happy once they scrap the road with their knees.

The statistics of the Swiss Federal Roads Office shows that motorcycle accidents have increased drastically in recent years. Five years ago, in 2019, thirty motorcyclists lost their lives on the Swiss road, but last year, 2023, the figure already reached fifty. The picture is the same for serious injuries: The number climbed from 990 to 1160 within the same period. The statistic also shows that the motorcyclist rider is the main or is the contributory cause in 70 percent of the accidents in which a motorcyclist is involved and in practically every second accident, the motorcyclist is at fault.

Most motorcycles accidents in Switzerland happen on alpine roads; therefore, the police have started together with volunteers, various operations to sensibilize and make bikers aware of their riding manners. Some motorcyclists are not aware of how risky they do ride in the saddle of their motorcycle.

So, next time when you ride over the Swiss Alps don’t be surprised, to see people in civil cloth with binoculars watching the roads. Depending on how you did hit the pass road and did ride to the top, they might stop you, warn you and maybe you’ll get away without a fine, as the purpose of this action is to make motorcyclists aware of their riding.

My advice: If you want to play with your life do it somewhere where you no not endanger other road users and if you want to race, go to a racetrack.
