But that’s part of Switzerland’s charm: snow-capped peaks, crystal-clear lakes, breathtaking alpine passes, and countless hidden gems waiting along every route.
Spring – A Taste of the Season
From April onward, local riders begin taking short day trips as Spring arrives in the valleys below 3,000 feet (approx. 900 meters).
Temperatures range between 39–59 °F (4–15 °C), South of the Alps it ranges between 45-63 °F (7–17 °C) but April weather is inconsistent and unreliable – sunshine one moment, rain or even snow the next.
For travelers coming from overseas, it is not the suitable time for a motorcycle vacation in Switzerland. Conditions can shift quickly, you won’t be able to ride on certain days and, most high alpine roads are still closed.
Summer – Prime Time for Motorcyclists
Most high mountain passes only open in June – the official start of the motorcycle touring season in Switzerland.

The most favorable time for a motorcycle holiday with its best riding conditions runs from mid-June through to mid-September, with steady weather and pleasant temperatures between 64–83 °F (18–28 °C).
This is the time to experience the full beauty of Switzerland – from the central Alps to the Engadin and down to sunny Ticino.
Keep in mind that July and August are the busiest months, with more traffic, higher prices, increased dynamic hotel rates, and lots of tourists on the road.
If you prefer quieter rides and more relaxed scenery, consider traveling in June or early September when the crowds thin out and the locals reclaim the roads.
Fall and Winter – A Time for Four Wheels
Around October, the passes begin to close, and only a few riders remain on the road. From November through to April, most motorcyclists hibernate their motorcycle for the winter.
Temperatures drop below 40 °F (5 °C), as tires lose traction in the cold, and black ice, fog, and fallen leaves make riding dangerous.
Simply said – it’s a time to plan your next tour rather than ride one.

As the season for motorcycling is short, it’s smart to book very early – especially hotels, lodges and restaurants in the alpine regions. My advice is to book 4-6 month in advance. For July and August eben more.
