Motorcycling in Autumn

A glance toward the eastern horizon: one waits longer for the sun to finally reveal its face. Day by day, “our life force” arrives later, and in the evening, it departs earlier. Nature goes along with it, presenting itself in the mornings with its mystical fog and in the afternoons in its full splendor of colors. The long-distance views are magnificent, the sky is deep blue, and the many hues become purer, more intense, and clearer.

t’s the absolute peak before everything retreats into regenerative hibernation. To ensure it’s a fun experience, we prepare ourselves better for this special time. Due to the gradually dropping temperatures in the morning and earlier evenings, we plan our tour accordingly.

Sleep in a little longer in the morning and only start when it’s warmer and brighter.

Be mindful of the following dangers:

  • Roads are slipperier, and you never know exactly where or what lies ahead.
  • Fog is to be expected in lower-lying areas.
  • Fallen leaves are usually wet and stick to the road.
  • Besides the woods, at forest entrances, and in shady spots, it remains damp and frosty longer.
  • Ground frost may already be present.
  • Farmers are busy with various harvests and may soil some short sections of the road.
  • It’s hunting season, so expect increased wildlife crossings.

Ensure your motorcycle is in perfect condition. Check tire pressure, lights, turn signals, and horn once again, and remember: riding with some distance is the safest way!

Bring back the warming inner lining for your motorcycle jacket, swap the thinner neck scarf for the thicker one, and do the same with gloves and pants; warmer and windproof clothing is essential. Today, there’s no such thing as bad weather, only ill-suited clothing, because if you’re cold while riding a motorcycle, you’ll lack the necessary reaction and concentration. To be safer on the road and to make sure other road users notice us as motorcyclists, brighter and partially reflective clothing is recommended.

Replace a damaged and scratched helmet visor immediately, as the low-angled sunlight at this time of year and the headlights of oncoming vehicles can reflect and cause glare.

It’s another opportunity to fall in love with this nature and experience it on a motorcycle.
