The Aude, a region in southern France; warm and friendly people, varied landscape, unspoiled nature, lots of castles, full of legends and sadly with a very troubled history where the believes of the Albigensians (also known as the Cathars) came to a end.
The time of the Cathars also called true and good Christians, starts around 1140 until 1310. It was their belief and many people lived happy according to these “rules and beliefs”. When you know more about it, you’ll notice that it is actually not a religion or some kind of it, but a simple way of living. They talked in a normal language that everyone could understand and not in that complicated latin. They even had the support of the landlords and the kings.
Rome wanted to rule the World and saw a kind of “competition” that they had to kill before it became bigger. The 20-year military campaign initiated by Pope Innocent III costed the lifes of thousands of children, women and men and eliminated Catharism.
We ride into their strongholds and the hearth of the Land of the Cathars. We follow some of their old itineraries along cathedrals, castles, various landscapes until their last refuge, the fortress of Montségur. It is a tour through a cultural melting pot with incredible roads through mountain scenery, fascinating stories and legends. Lots of unique highlights are part of our program, like a traditional lunch as in the medieval times and … more.
Join us for a brilliant journey to a captivating part of France that is too often ignored by current tourists.
